The name of world renowned dancing couple Padmabhushans Raja Radha Reddy is synonymous with Kuchipudi. They have given this age old art form a new dimension without compromising its traditional poetry or dramatic sensibility. With rare excellence and perfection of technique, Raja & Radha Reddy have placed Kuchipudi on the cultural map of the world. On their account Kuchipudi has acquired grace and subtlety while preserving its vigour and range of ballet. Based in New Delhi the Reddy’s have already become Legends both in India and in the international cultural map.
In order to further propagate this art form Raja Radha Reddy in 1976 established an institution Natya Tarangini. The intent was to popularise Kuchipudi amongst the younger generations. Since then Natya Tarangini has evolved into one of the leading dance schools of the country.

Objectives
To impart specialised training in Kuchipudi dance style.
To provide facilities for research & development of Kuchipudi dance.
To spread knowledge and enlighten the general public on the importance of Kuchipudi dance.
To promote Kuchipudi as a medium that conveys the rich traditionally ancient values of the Indian society.
To collect and document palm-leaf manuscripts dealing with the art and to promote the publications.
To organise dance recitals, demonstrations, festivals, conferences, inland and foreign tours and other public functions and celebrations.
To confer and award merit certificates, diplomas and degrees.
To establish a residential institute and to train students of the highest standards and quality in the `gurukul’ tradition.

Activities
The institute has trained over 2500 students from across the globe.
The physically challenged and children from the weaker sections of the society have access to the facilities available at Natya Tarangini.
Natya Tarangini has also been regularly organising festivals on a National scale such as Kuchipudi Natya Vaibhavam, Kuchipudi Natya Utsav, Kutumb Parampara and Parampara featuring stalwarts of the country. These festivals have been phenomenally successful and popular.
The institute has systematised the dance syllabus for training its students.

Supported by Pratibha & Ravi B. Reddy of New Jersy, Natya Tarangini has acquired prime land to construct a cultural landmark building in New Delhi. Centrally located the area is easily accessible and conducive to the activities of the institute. The aim is to provide the younger generation a friendly cultural environment where they can concentrate on the holistic learning of the Kuchipudi.

Design concept
The building design for Natya Tarangini draws inspiration from traditional settings, forms and spaces to provide for contemporary needs. Designed by Arun Rewal, as a `temple for learning’, the institute resonates iconic images, interpreted in modern terms.
The composition is defined by attributes of a geometrical order infused with qualities of a fluid dynamism. The building form comprises a `stepping section’ with terraces and open spaces at different levels. Complex and diverse programmatic elements are organized around a central courtyard that provides for shared experiences. The north edge of this enclosure is marked by a `gopuram’ like structure that responds to adjoining plots. The courtyard opens to an adjacent park. The skew of the block, gateway opening and use of bold protruding forms provide a dynamic quality to the building. The `gopuram’ also provides for an entrance to a small auditorium located at the lower ground level. Access to the auditorium is provided through a space that echos a `kund’. A ramp encircling the building connects three levels and define a series of enclosures. The building includes teaching studios, a library, cafeteria and residential facilities for students and faculty. It comprises a roof garden sheltered by a solar canopy. The canopy provides a monumental quality.
It is envisioned that the building exterior will include white `dholpur’ stone and glass brick finishes. The interior will include fabric, terracotta, wood and glass panels.
